It’s Julia!
I’ve always felt that the cello captures the purest essence of a song. Even as a solo instrument, its warm, soaring voice can sound like a whole choir all on its own - at least, that’s what drew me in when I first picked up the cello over fifteen years ago.
These days, I love sharing that beautiful sound at weddings and special events. From timeless classical melodies to acoustic takes on modern favorites (Howl’s Moving Castle anyone?), I enjoy creating music that feels both elegant and personal.
Some of my most memorable performances have been delightfully unexpected, like playing in full regency attire for Netflix’s Queen Charlotte premiere, or rocking an electric cello as part of a Beatles-meets-ballet fever dream.
Wherever your vision falls: traditional, modern, or somewhere in between, I’d love to bring a cello-istic touch to your celebration. Use the form below to get in touch, and let’s make your event unforgettable.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Weddings are my main focus, but I also love bringing live cello music to wineries, conferences, cocktail parties, and other creative projects outside the wedding world.
-
Yes, absolutely and enthusiastically! Every couple and every love story is welcome here, and I'd be honored to help make your day sound as beautiful as it deserves.
-
I'm based in Seattle, WA. Usually I travel within 30 miles of Seattle for no fee, but if your event is further than that then I’ll be happy to give you a quote!

There are three tiers:
Tier 1, $650: a 30-minute prelude plus processional and recessional music for the ceremony, with up to 2 custom song selections.
Tier 2, $850: prelude, processional, ceremony, recessional, and cocktail hour, with up to 5 custom song selections.
Tier 3, $1150: the full package, prelude through cocktail hour, with up to 7 custom song selections.
-
Prelude: the roughly 30 minutes before the ceremony starts, while guests arrive and find their seats. Background music sets the mood here.
Processional: when the wedding party walks down the aisle. This is a great spot for meaningful song choices, since the audience is quiet and focused.
Recessional: the joyful walk back up the aisle after the ceremony. Couples often pick a special song just for this moment.
-
The tiers mainly change two things: how much of your event is covered (ceremony only versus ceremony plus cocktail hour) and how many songs you can hand-pick versus choose by genre.
Any songs beyond your custom picks are curated by me within the genre you choose.
-
The Song List page covers a wide range across pop, classical, and soundtracks, but it's not exhaustive.
I’m able to play cello versions of almost any song, so please let me know what your custom song requests are! A YouTube link is best in case there are multiple versions of the song you have in mind.
-
The tiers are built around the most common needs, but if your event has an unusual structure or timeline, mention it when you reach out and we can talk through what fits best.
If your event is not a wedding, just send me an email directly at hello@cellobyjulia.com to inquire!
-
I bring my cello, a music stand, and either digital or sheet music. If your event is outdoors or in a noisy area (like a restaurant), I will bring a battery-operated speaker to amplify myself.
If your event is outdoors and unshaded, then I will bring an 8×8 white canopy.
You will need to provide me an armless chair, ideally with no cushioning.
-
Yes, with a few conditions. Full shade and safe weather are required to protect the instrument and the performance quality. If a venue doesn't have natural shade, I'll bring a white canopy. In cases of rain, extreme temperatures, or otherwise unsafe conditions, I reserve the right to move indoors or pause at my discretion.
-
I'll make every effort to arrange a trusted professional substitute. If that isn't possible, you'll receive a full refund.
-
Fill out the form on the Work With Me or Contact page with your date, venue, and a bit about your vision. I'll follow up to talk through details and confirm availability. After you decide on your song choices and package, I’ll send over a contract and you’ll place your deposit. The remaining balance will be paid 30 days before the event.
